Attending Court as a Party to a Civil Lawsuit

Prior to appearing in court, obtain instructions from your attorney as to where you should go once you arrive at the courthouse.  Also make plans with your counsel as to how your case will proceed.  Make sure to bring whatever documents are necessary for your case in addition to any subpoena, notice or other document you may have been served with in connection with your court appearance.

Make sure that you are on time and that you are appropriately dressed.  Courtroom matters may take time.  Be prepared to stay at the courthouse for several hours.

If you cannot locate the courtroom where your matter is to be heard or if you have any question regarding when your case will be heard, ask a court employee for assistance.
